History of Art

What is History of Art?

Illinois offers two distinct majors related to art history. The History of Art major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, which results in a Bachelor of Arts degree, focuses on liberal arts courses, including literature and history. You’ll analyze and interpret visual cultures, both past and present, from around the globe. Learning skills that will aid you in understanding a world that increasingly relies on visual communication and intercultural exchange, you’ll critically examine art, artifacts, and built environments produced by contemporary and historical societies while also deciding the best way in which to research them independently and clearly write and speak about your findings.
