What is Secondary Education: Mathematics?

As a Secondary Math Education major, you'll develop skills and dispositions to become a high school math teacher. You'll also have the option of earning an endorsement to teach math in middle school. In our program, you'll learn how to apply research on learning math to your teaching. Through your experiences, you'll refine your ability to teach students considering current demands. You'll also refine your ability to revisit important math ideas. 

Our program particularly attends to issues of equity and social justice in mathematics education. We place an emphasis on leveraging students’ knowledge and experiences to build robust math identities. Additionally, you'll explore policy issues that affect math teaching and learning. You'll do this through practice-based approaches to teaching, including community-based engagement.
