What is English?

This major closely studies literature, text, and culture. As an English student, you’ll learn how to apply critical thinking skills to a variety of pieces of literature, look at situations from new angles, and communicate your ideas through writing. Your coursework will delve into fiction, drama, poetry, film, and essays and will include many writing-based classes to hone your professional writing skills. If exploring both modern and historical complex issues and working toward solutions sounds interesting, our English major may be right for you. A Secondary Education option is also available for the teaching of English in high schools.
